CARTER B REMEMBERS:
Its been a long time since I hung out as an
"intern" at KSAN AM. It was located at the Furniture Mart on Market
near 8th. The station was located in a little penthouse with the antenna right
above it. It was owned by a minister named Patterson. It had an eclectic
format, with the great "Jumpin George" Oxford and little Tiny as two
talents. Oxford had to lose the "jumpin" title when he moved over
to KWBR in Oakland. When I worked classical music at KRE he used to call on
occasion, a nice man. I used to carry equipment for remotes at Black
churches on Sundays--the most outrageously great music I have ever heard in my
life at these churches. One of the board operators was Rich Schmale, who later
was an engineer when I worked at KSFO. Carter B. Smith
